7th April 2022 - Cosmetic products that are safe both for consumers and the environment are an absolute priority for the cosmetics and personal care industry. We share concerns over the issue of plastic and microplastic pollution and support the overall goals of the European Union to address this challenge. It is important that consumers are responsibly informed about the issue of microplastics. Plastic Soup Foundation’s report “Plastic. The Hidden Beauty Ingredient” paints a highly misleading picture of the situation of microplastics and cosmetics and personal care products.

31 August 2021 – The introduction of the full ban on animal testing for cosmetics in the EU in 2013 was unquestionably a pivotal milestone for animal welfare. Today, when the discussion on animal testing is high on the European agenda again, Cosmetics Europe emphasises its full support for the ban under the EU Cosmetic Products Regulation.

1st March 2021 - The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and Socio-economic Analysis (SEAC) published today their compiled final opinion on an Annex XV dossier proposing restrictions on intentionally-added microplastics. It is an important step in the restriction process, whose outcome will have a significant impact on multiple industry sectors in Europe, and the cosmetics and personal care sector in particular.

14th October 2020 – The European Commission published today its Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) and the accompanying Staff Working Documents.
Cosmetics Europe shares the European Commission’s Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability overarching goal for robust chemicals policy framework that protects consumers and environment; safety is our number one concern. At the same time however, we highlight the need to ensure industry’s competitiveness and innovation capacity to deliver to the needs and expectations of consumers.
