Brussels, 30 January 2024 – During the second political trilogue that took place yesterday, the negotiators from the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission reached a provisional agreement on the revision of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD). Cosmetics Europe (CE) takes note of the agreement yet still questions the fairness of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system being put in place and ultimately its effectiveness in meeting the main objective of the Directive, which is to address water pollution.

Brussels, 19 December 2023 – At yesterday’s Environment Council meeting, the Member States adopted the general approach to the revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Cosmetics Europe takes note of the approach but continues to raise major concerns around a number of issues, from packaging minimisation to Single Market harmonisation and labelling rules.

30 November 2023, BRUSSELS – Today, Cosmetics Europe launched the COSMILE Europe app, a new entry point to access the information in the COSMILE Europe database, European ingredient database that provides easy access to reliable, verified and scientifically supported information on almost 30,000 ingredients used in cosmetics.

Brussels, 17 October 2023 – At yesterday’s Environment Council meeting, the Member States adopted the general approach to the revision of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD). Cosmetics Europe (CE) is disappointed with this decision and continues to raise major concerns around the compatibility of the UWWTD proposal with the EU law and the workability of the proposed Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system.

The European Commission adopted the Restriction on synthetic polymer microparticles (microplastics) intentionally added to consumer or professional use products of any kind on 25 September 2023. The Restriction aims to address pollution caused by intentionally added microplastics.
Cosmetics Europe shares concerns regarding the issue of microplastics pollution and overall goals of the European Union to tackle this challenge. Cosmetic products that are safe both for consumers and the environment are an absolute priority for the cosmetics and personal care industry.

Today, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) voted on its report on the European Commission’s proposal for the revision of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD).
Cosmetics Europe takes note of the result of the vote but would like to highlight a number of concerns it has in relation to the report.
