As part of the EU Green Deal, the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) outlined the “One Substance, One Assessment” (OSOA) approachto improve the efficiency, effectiveness, coherence, and transparency of safety assessments of chemicals across different pieces of EU legislation.
The OSOA package was published on 7th December 2023 and contains three legislative proposals. Among them, the proposal for a regulation establishing a common data platform on chemicals (CDPC) aims strengthen the knowledge base on chemicals by collating relevant information on the safety and sustainability of chemicals and facilitate early detection and action on emerging chemical risks.
The proposal on a CDPC has a direct impact on the cosmetic sector. It mentions the Cosmetic Products Regulation among the Union acts that will need to comply with the future obligations of this proposal.
