HCPS Consortium adjusts its scope of work

  • Last updated: November 13, 2024

The Hair Colouring Product Safety (HCPS) Consortium informs about a change in the scope of hair dyes it works on.

Already in the early 2000s, companies producing and placing on the market hair colouring products decided to collaborate on the generation and preparation of safety data and information needed to address regulatory requests and/or to comply with obligations pertaining to hair colouring ingredients and/or finished cosmetic hair colouring product use. The companies formed the Hair Colouring Product Safety (HCPS) Consortium.

Initially, the HCPS Consortium undertook to generate information regarding a number of hair dyes, so called Common Interest Dyes (CIDs), under the EU hair dye strategy1. This work was mostly completed some years ago, but recent regulatory developments related to both human as well as environmental safety make it necessary to conduct further work to support continued use of hair dyes in cosmetic products.

A review of the use and interest of the Consortium members led to changes in the list of dyes that are considered CIDs by the consortium.

NB: It is important to note that this list is tentative and constitutes a starting point for a vulnerability analysis. This means that not all these dyes might be part of the final list of dyes that the Consortium will work on. The HCPS consortium will inform again as soon as the final list of CIDs is established.
